The Elysian Knight
Coming from a pretty small/hickish town I always find myself feeling left out when it comes to music discussions. Fortuately, my closest friends and I are into the same sort of stuff so it's nnever actuall a bad thing. However, even then we find that we come across a band one of us loves that the others cant stand, and I'm sure we this isnt a singular occurance limited to just us.

The point of this topic is for you to talk about your favourite bands that none of your friends really seems to like. It has a secondary purpose in exposing board members to bnds they might have otherwise not heard of or had the chance to experience. Enjoy!

For me, it is definitely Blue Oyster Cult. I've been a huge fan of them ever since I heard Veterans of the Psychic Wars in the movie Heavy Metal (awesome movie, btw, and completely deserving of its own topic laugh.gif ). After hearing that song I started looking into their other stuff and came across gems like Astronomy, Dont Fear The Reaper, Take Me Away, Godzilla, and MANY more. BOC is getting more playtime on my MP3 Player than anything else is right now, even though I'm the only one around here that appreciates them.

For me it's Prince. I dont care what anyone says, he wails on the guitar. Most people look at him or his music and go "wow...". Some of his songs can be weird, and yes he did that whole "symbol" thing, but he makes some wonderful music. Purple rain is one of my all time fav songs and prolly will be forever.

BTW Blue Oyster Cult rocks, I need more cowbell =P
The Elysian Knight
Purple Rain is indeed an amazing song.

And I just saw the SNL skit for the first time in my life the other night. I dont think I've ever laughed so hard in my life.

I think I'll add Jimi Hendrix to my list. All Along The Watchtower cover = brilliance.
Naria
Trivium. lol. But I'm not too big a fan anyway.
c_jayo6
well, me coming from a hip hop induced surrounding I get looked at pretty weird all the time because I'm a huge Rock and Punk fan. Anytime I listen to Nirvana I get the "look",lol
inuyasha16
A Perfect Circle. Very few people in my school listened to them.
Trey of Triforia
Cold, there a great band thats not too known of, there best cd is Year of the Spider, if you want to check them out, one of there best songs is remedy, if you ask me.

I also really like some Johnny Horton, he wrote songs about war that were pretty good. One of his most famous songs is North To Alaska and its a great song to say the least.

mine has to be the Backstreet Boys and Nsync...
my friends just don't get that they have talent

For me its Martina McBride. Her voice is unbelievable and she has a lot of good, meaningful songs. If any of you are wanting to get into country, especially contemporary country, I highly recommend you listen to her.
Nintenking
Rush. One of the greatest bands ever. Period. My friends don't like them, which is weird because we all love rock from the seventies and the eighties. I'll play Tom Sawyer just to piss them off for fun when we are all in the car. laugh.gif
Motti
As I said in another post, my favorite band is Rammstein. My friends and co-workers at the comic shop where I cashier not only dislike the band/music, but one friend vocally makes fun of it, calling it "evil" and referring to it as Nazi music, since it's all in German.

This saddens me for a lot of reasons. For one, it strikes me as terribly prejudiced that anything German is automatically Nazi-like, and for another, I feel like I'm being made fun of by proxy. But I've also caved in and don't play my Rammstein DVDs in the store anymore, just because no one else seems to like it. So for the most part they listen to their music, because I've given up on the stuff. Why play something no one else likes, after all?
Reprise
Limp Bizkit lol. Their ex guitarist Wes Borland is one of my favourite musicians and artist ever. The other members are also incredinly talented musicians. Unfolrtunately most people just saw Fred Durst...

Oh and I would also like to Powerranger4life21 is right, Cold are an awesome band! I advise anyone to check them out.
RedRanger316
My friends don't get August Burns Red. They are a Christian band, but no one will take the time to listen to them.
Otaku
I hang out with a lot of people that prefer J-Rock or some of the newer "emo/scene" type of music. So they really don't see most of the time what I see in the older style of music. Especially, one of my favorite rappers of all time Eric Wright once known to the world as Eazy-E.

Truly, I believe he had a lot of talent as a rapper and was always talented. My favorite member of the group N.W.A. If he wanted to make a song dissing somebody he was able to do it (see: Real Compton City G's). Something about him always caught my eye.

Yay, I'm not alone! Some of their songs just don't get old for me. And of course, my sister makes fun of me!
Theresa915
I've got two: PsyOpus (grindcore); and Ethel Merman.

The thing is, my friends are always making fun of me for liking two complete opposite genres. They call me "BroadwayCore". Creative isn't it? nowink.gif
Kazyx
All of my friends hate on Cobra Starship, but I can't get enough of them. I love the beats and the lyrics they toss out...

I have certain artists that my friends don't/won't listen to (or some they just won't admit smile.gif ). Actually alot of them have talent, at least I think so:

- Cheri Dennis: She kinda became a one-hit wonder, but the hit she had was really good smile.gif
- Chrisette Michele: She isn't really popular where I live, but she got it goin on in other places smile.gif
- Jamiroquai: Another band that isn't as popular in the US, but I absolutely love their music. smile.gif
- Justin Nozuka: My cousin introduced me to him. He has a song I really like called "After Tonight". None of my friends seem to have heard of him.
- Nikka Costa: Her music was used in alot of commercials. I like her music.
- Sia: Her song "Buttons" is awesome. She has a genuine voice. smile.gif
- Sophie Monk: She was in "Date Movie" and then I found out she sings. I love her voice and she's popular in Australia. smile.gif
- Vikter Duplaix: He has a jazz vibe to his music. Very gentle and contemporary, yet good. smile.gif

I also got my friends into listening to Estelle. Her song "American Boy" with Kanye West is just AMAZING! I listened to that song everytime I was with my friends.
RangerBoyEmpire
In my case it would be ABBA. I enjoy the beat but my friends just don't see what the big deal is. My favorite song from ABBA is Mamma Mia.

Heavily edited by Jefferson. Please put more effort and use better grammar and sentence structure in the future. Thanks.
Cyrax1990
For me my favorite band is Dragonforce, mostly because the guitar solos are so increable. But my friends don't like power metal so it sucks for me.
Razor
I think Nickelback is pretty good, but most of my friends hate them. I don't know why but I just think they're a cool band and I love to listen to all their songs.
Woundedah
My favorite band ever is The Used. I've loved them since they debuted. Most of my friends think there garbage though. I don't know why.
ClimaxRanger
My favourite band are Daughtry and Coldplay, but my friends always make fun of them by saying Chris Daughtry is bald and old. They also say Coldplay sucks because they don't use drum and they are not enough rock.
en55555
I love Iron Maiden, nobody in my hometown likes them. I think they exemplify 80's metal music. Their best songs: The Trooper, Number of the Beast, and Dance of Death.
Zaiyin
My favorite one that most of my friends don't like all that much is Epica. While they're probably not the most shining example of the genre, I still love the melody and the way everything flows with their music.

Of course, most of my friends are also heavy-metal addicts, so that may be why.

Tung0701
For me, they are Westlife, Steps, Backstreet Boys and Linkin Park. My favorite songs are: Tell me the meaning of being lonely, Minutes to midnight, My love... rolleyes.gif
Aqua111
In Extremo. My friends don't get why I listen to them because this normally isn't my style of music. Well, some of their songs are really good but most time I listen to it because of the bagpipes laugh.gif And my friends don't get that too.
LilJuggalo
I love Disturbed, but my little sister is in to all that rap junk, but I'm into that hard rock stuff, oh yea! biggrin.gif
BuckyMayhem
laugh.gif Nice, man. But I take it, you at least like ICP, right? I certainly ain't going to kick you, man, Metalhead's have got to stick together, otherwise we'll have bands that suddenly start wars with each other, because of where they live. (EASTSIDE! emo-woot.gif)

A band I like, but all my friends don't. For one, there's Nelly Furtado. I've been called many a name for my love of her. The woman has got a wonderful voice, knows how to make music, and to make it sound fresh beyond just one listen. So, she got a little Pop/Hip Hop on her new album. Not enough to bug me though. Definetly the best voice Pop's heard since, at least, the early Nineties.

I also really love Elvis Presley. No one, not even any adults around this hellhole of town, puts up with it. I say "You know, Evlis Presley", and before I can finish my sentence, I get a "F*ck Elvis Presley! Listen to THE BEATLES!!!!!". Now I know there's apparently some competition as to who created Rock, but no matter what you think, you have to admit that "The King" has amazing talent. His range was incredible. He could go from Rock, to Country, to Jazz, to Christmas Music, with no difficulty, or shame. The man was a Rock Icon. He looked the part, too. Black hair, sideburns (Which I, unfortunate enough, cannot even come to par with sad.gif), and the getup. I think it's just insane how people would disrespect such a God, for a bunch of whiny, English, bowl hair cut SOB's. I don't dislike the Beatles because of Elvis. I don't even dislike them, I just don't think you can compare the two, in any way, shape, or form.

Plus, I love Elvis, cause the man taught me all my dance moves. tongue2.gif

I am a huge fan of '90's grunge music, and i get hated on for a couple of bands:

Pearl Jam: People always tell me, You like Pearl Jam? Well yes i do. Ten is one of my favorite albums from the 90's and Eddie Vedder is an amazing singer.

Stone Temple Pilots: Again, people tell me that they suck, that they are rip-offs, but i have to say that there album Core is the only album that i like every single song on. Some other good albums by them are Purple and No. 4

Sponge: No one knows about this band, and they still hate it! They are from Michigan and there album Rotten Pinata is awesome. There song Plowed is in Empire Records which is one of my favorite movies.

Oh, and Elysian Knight I love Blue Oyster Cult and Heavy Metal. You have good tastes.
Chupa_22
I listen to a lot of music my friends have never heard of. They have listened to the stuff on my Ipod and the gerenal rule is I can not listen to my Flyleaf CD or my Godsmack CD's in the car when they are around. I love both of these bands.
UmberRose
I love this American band called The Faint, but being american, nobody in England has heard of them. sad.gif

Yes, I have the same problem I can never listen to Flyleaf when my friends are around. Flyleaf are so good. There song all around me is the best song. They are just as good as paramore.
Chupa_22
Paramore is the Best. DECODE FTW. I have seen Paramore in concert like 5 times. Halyey is just so hot and the music just speaks to me.
