Time Travel

Hey guys does anyone have any thoughts on time travel? Like if you went back in time would that mean you would grow younger, and how do you really classify what the past is when you travel back? Or do you believe in alternate dimensions? But how are they linked?

You do have quite a complex question and there wouldn't be just one right or wrong answer, at least not until time travel would be invented which in a way should never happen.

I at least would think that if you would do time travel with the help of a machine you wouldn't grow younger because you'd basically transfer your own body through time but if you'd be able to return to your past through some mystical ability I'd say that you'd grow younger because you'd basically transferring your mind through time.

Past is events that have happened and that one can't change anymore, like this post here in a way it's in the past when I post it, but it isn't your real past because I can come back and edit it. Of course someone could just copy the original text and I could go on and on with this. But like a start of some war, that is past and eventhough wars end they can't be changed.
We don't know really anything what's going on outside earth or in it so alternate dimensions can't be ruled out and because we don't know if they exist we can't really say if they are linked or not.

As a conclusion I'd say that if time travel could be possible humans or anyother beings shouldn't try and find its secrets because there are people who might want to do good and those to create destruction or get their crazy dreams to become reality but all these would change this planet entirely. Every action that would be made in the past might change the future and be the demise of a lot of people or worst case scenario the earth's end.

I definitely believe that Time Travel is possible, but like Juselius mentioned, if you were to use a Machine, chances are you wouldn't grow younger upen the completion of your Journey, as you are transferring physical data. However, if you did use some sort of mystic force to travel, I think you would still not revert in age, as your probably only traveling spiritually, and not physically, and as far as I know the spirit doesn't age.

I agree with this to a tee. I should hope Time Travel is never invented, and if it is, then I at least hope that whoever invents it keeps it to themselves. Because I certainly wouldn't want to see mass destruction caused to Earth, just because some Bum wanted a million dollars.

Personally though, I believe that even though it most likely is possible, your past is a reflection of yourself, and you should use that reflection to help make your Future better, the past doesn't need to be changed.

Oh, I didn't think it that way, I was more thinkng if you could travel through your own timeline and basically insert your mind to your past self for a while and do stuff, but yeah even in this your mind wouldn't revert.

This is entirely true Nasuko what would we become if we could just go back in time and 'correct' something that happened to us? Humans learn from their mistakes and if those mistakes could be rerunned we wouldn't learn anything of how to live our lives.

My sentiments exactly. Whats done is done, and you know being a firm believer in fate, everything happens to us for a reason. Imagine for a moment if we could all go back in time, and change every detail we didn't like, or take advantage of every opportunity we ever missed.

It would be pure chaos, everyone would be buff millionaire's, our economy would crack to the point where money wouldn't even be needed, because no one would be working to make products, nature would most likely be destroyed in an effort to make all that money, and without any producing of products, we would all starve, and whatnot, and eventually bring the entire world down around us in one final chaotic war for some meaningless salvation.

Not a pretty sight.

I've never really cared all that much for the idea of time travel, nor is this a piece of science fiction I've put any study into. From a purely philosophical stand-point, it's a tremendously depressing idea. Like Juselius said, we learn from the mistakes we make and if we can just go back and change it so we did nothing wrong, life loses its meaning. When it comes right down to it, humans are inherently flawed creatures, but as far as I'm concerned, this is a good thing. It's what separates us from the perfect beings we write and dream about and that's what makes us unique. If we become perfect, what reason do we have for emotions like love or hate? The answer is easy. None. We wouldn't even consider them, considering that if we were perfect, we would have nothing to question, nothing to feel. Because emotions, in and of themselves, are flaws too. So, perfection is overrated and ergo, time travel is, as well.

It might be possible, but should I live one thousand years, I doubt to be able to see the phenomena take place. So worrying about it's silly. Time travel won't happen for a very, very long time. But, if it is ever created, I hope its creator would have the common sense to destroy every shred of evidence that he ever accomplished anything. Otherwise, he's damning mankind, potentially leading us to a "slaughter" of sorts.

I'm flawed - heavily, at that - but I'd rather be that way, so I can have the right to love a girl, or hate destructive concepts such as this one. So yeah. better to be flawed and happy, than perfect and emotionless, dead to the world. For sure.

You're totally right about this Bucky, we're all flawed and I'm truly happy about it. Life is supposed to have good and bad things in it so that we can truly feel alive, if everything is perfect how could anyone enjoy life.
