 Downloads (Password/Guidelines)
Posted by Tyrailius - 01-31-09 15:45 - 33 comments
We are sorry for the inconvenience this may bring, but due to the amount of people just joining for downloads; we have had to take a different direction.

Instead of attempting to post something of value to the community, new members have been breaking the rules just to get to the downloads as quickly as possible. After being warned by the staff, all they want to do is argue and think you will remove the warning if they can argue their way out of it. Most of the new members will just break even more rules to try and get back up to 35 posts. This is hurting the community more than anything.

The Downloads forum will remain password protected, but will no longer have a post count requirement; we have decided to make it a quality requirement.

This simply means that a Member will not be able to view the Download forum until an Admin gives them the heads up. While there may no longer be a post requirement, we ask for quality posts in return. When the Staff believes a Member is ready for the Downloads forum, he will make the Member an Advanced Member. If you ask to have permission, it will only take you longer to receive permission to the downloads.

To see the Downloads you must be an active Member of the community. This does not mean you have to post everyday, but it means you are asked to have quality posts and remain active after receiving the download privileges. If you have more than 50 quality posts, you will likely be able to see the downloads. However, this is a guideline. Which means that if you have 50 posts you are not required to be an Advanced Member and if you have less than 50 quality posts you can still be moved up from Member status to Advanced Member status.

Once you are approved by the Staff you will automatically be promoted to an Advanced Member. Once you become an 'Advanced Member', the following options will become available to you that regular 'Members' won't have:

* Five second flood control. (Members have 30.)
* Fifty storable Private Messages. (Members have 25.)
* Can remove 'Edited By' legend in posts. (Members can't.)
* Can delete own posts/topics. (Members can't.)
* Can add events to calendar. (Members can't.)

Ryu and I don't want to seem too self-centered or anything, but to us you should at least have the dignity and respect to join and contribute to the forum if you're going to use something off the site. Who knows, you may like it here more then you thought and stay longer than planned just to download episodes. Thank you to all of those who have joined.

Also for everyone's convenience, here is a sample of one of our downloads which is available to you in its full entirety in the Downloads forum once you gain access to it. A Special Thanks goes out to Green101 for this five minute sample of Episode 25: Life's a Masquerade.

We apologize to any Member that this effects who were here before this rule became effective. We have thought about this decision over the past month and conclude that quality is more important than quantity.

Thank you for understanding!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After this post, all Advanced Members will be moved back down to Member status. Shortly after that, the Staff will decide who should all receive Advanced Member status. This process could take a few hours, so do not be alarmed if you are no longer an Advanced Member.

The Basics of "Generation Z" Grammar.
Posted by Ryu Hardt - 04-9-08 16:09 - 38 comments
I'd just like to say that with our recent success this year we, here at Generation Z, have decided to set up a little guide to help everyone with their posts. We are aware that not everyone's first language is English, therefore we want this to be more of a guide then a rule.

INITIAL NOTE:
You agreed to follow the sign-up rules and the following rules by signing up for an account. Those who do not follow the rules are subject to, but not limited to: moderation, deletion, banning, and suspension.

INTRODUCTION:
This mostly goes for new members who have signed up on the board, but I'm sure it'll be a great reminder/helper for those already signed up.

As with any board, when you signed up, you agreed to a certain set of rules that were presented to you. If you feel that you are not up to the task of following these rules and the individual(s) who enforce these rules, you have several options.

(1) Don't sign up, don't get an account, don't post. That's it.
(2) Find another forum, elsewhere, outside of Generation Z to post on.

If you feel that you CAN follow the rules and become a regular contributing member of our little community, hurray for you! Despite Tyrailius and myself living in the Midwestern United States, we have quite a diverse readership and audience, with members located all throughout the world, various continents, and countless countries.

Despite this, remember that we are indeed based in the United States and still primarily write to this audience. As silly (and both generic and egotistical) as it sounds, we write and post in proper English, and wish our forum members to also do so to the best of their ability.

It's very obvious and expected that some of our foreign visitors would still love to be a part of our community, but simply just don't know the strange intricacies of our language... so we're here to help! Here's a few guidelines to keep in mind when posting on the forum. Why do we ask you to try to follow these guidelines?

(1) Well written posts are easy to read.
(2) It makes you look better.
(3) It makes us look better.
(4) Power Ranger fans certainly need every bit of help they can get to look good to the outside world.

So let's get on with some helpful hints!

RULES, REGULATIONS, ENGLISH HINTS:

(1) CAPITALIZATION:
All sentences start with a capital letter. The letter "I" (when referring to yourself, as in "I took a walk.") is always capitalized. Don't capitalize the first letter in every word (as in, "Don't Type Like This!").

(2) PUNCTUATION:
Every sentence ends with some sort of punctuation. If it is a statement, it ends with a period. If it's a question, it ends with a question mark? Got it? If it's an exclamation or important remark, it ends with an exclamation mark. Great!

(3) GENERAL SPELLING:
Please spell-check your posts before you make them. If you have to copy-and-paste your post over to something like Microsoft Word before you post it, please do so. Bad spelling does nothing to showcase your intelligence.

(4) SPACING:
There is a space between every word, as well as, after every sentence.

(5) PARAGRAPHS:
Use the "Enter" key on your keyboard to create new paragraphs. Paragraphs help to keep your posts looking clean, and to separate different ideas. Here's an example:

QUOTE (Paragraph Example)
This is my first idea. I'm talking about a single idea in this paragraph, and I talk about it for quite a bit. I talk about this and that, all related to this single thing. It's quite important, and I'm glad that you're reading it. Thank you for sticking with me on this, because I really do feel you'll learn something.

This is a new paragraph in which I'm talking about something entirely different than before, or perhaps a different aspect of the above topic. See how clean the post looks? Things aren't all scrunched together, and it's simply easier on the eyes. We like things that are easy to read! They make everyone look so much more intelligent.

CONCLUSION:
Thanks for signing up on the Generation Z forums! We hope you enjoy it here and just remember that having clean, intelligent posts, not only help you thrive in the real world, but it will also display your level of intelligence. These rules are subject to change and alterate at any time, and are to be used in conjunction with the main board rules.

 How to Access the Downloads.
Posted by The Elysian Knight - 01-30-08 09:08 - 102 comments
In recent weeks I have noticed that the most common question asked is 'How do I download episodes?" And each and every time an upstanding member of this forum, be they Ty, Ryu, Green101, PRF4L, or myself, and yet the question is one that continues to be asked. Because of this I have decided to write an easy to understand detailed guide to accessing the downloads. It may look lengthy, but that is only because I am going through this step by step.

If members make points that they feel should be added to the guide I will be happy to edit them in. The reason I would like to have them in here is just so that they will be readily visible to the new members, and no valid points will be missed in the topic. I will be sure to credit the contributing member, so no worries there. If you have an issue with your point being included, please contact me and I will remove it.

On to the guide, and I really don't think I can make this a whole lot more simple.

How to Use the Downloads on Generation Z

Step One - Quality posts: For this one all you can do is have quality posts in several different topics. For the sake of the other members of the forum, do your best to keep the posts intelligent, on topic, and within the rules of the forum. The attitude around here is pretty much that if you aren't willing to contribute to the community, you really don't deserve these files. Besides, you'd be surprised at just how easy it is to get Advanced Member status.

Step Two - Find the Download Forum: The subforum for the Power Rangers downloads is located directly beneath 'Merchandise' in the Power Rangers subforum. It will not appear until you have Advanced Member status. You won't even be able to see it until then, so don't try.

Step Three - Insert Password: The download forum on Generation Z is password protected. When you try to enter the forum you will be prompted to enter the password; mmpr. Just like that - no capitalization, no punctuation, no quotations. Just 'mmpr'.

Step Four - Choose a Season: Ryu Hardt has graciously organized all of the available episodes into different topics - one for each season. Once you are in the forum, just choose the topic that contains the season you are looking for. Thanks to the dedication of Ryu and Ty, seasons one through six (Mighty Morphin' - In Space) are available for your consideration. All of the episodes are safe, user friendly, and of the highest quality.

Step Five - Choose an Episode: Once you are in the topic you're looking for you will see a list of episodes, all of which are written in blue. These are direct links. When you click on them they will take you directly to Megaupload where you will download the episode you chose. Megaupload is safe and free.

Step Six - Megaupload: Megaupload is easy to use. Beside the banner that says 'Megaupload' you will see a three digit code and a blank box next to it. Type this code into the box and click the 'Download' button that is right beside it. For those interested, Happy Hour is between 9 PM and 3 AM Standard Eastern Time, and in this period there are no download limits.

Step Seven - Downloading: Inserting this code will refresh the screen, and you will see a button near the bottom of the page that is counting down from about 40 seconds. Once this countdown has finished the button will change into one that says 'Free Download.' Click it.

Step Eight - Saving the File: Before the download will actually begin you will be prompted to choose a directory in which the file will be saved. I'm sure everyone knows how to do this, so I won't bother explaining it.

Known Issues

Codec: Many people seem to be lacking the codec required to play .AVI files. If the episode you seek is not in .WMV format, don't despair. All you have to do is download the DivX codec from www.DivX.com, and install it. This will allow Windows Media Player to play .AVI files. Or you can search for this codec which will allow you to play all kinds of files from Windows Media Player: Media.Player.Codec.Pack.V3.3.1.

Media Player: If you don't use Windows Media Player and the codec doesn't seem to work (I believe QuickTime Media Player has this issue, but don't quote me), an alternative is to download a different Media Player over the internet. There are dozens of great ones out there, but I would recommend either the DivX Video Player or the VLC Media Player. No matter which you go with, both will get the job done for you.

Sound, But No Video: This is an issue with your codec. See above.

Disappearing Posts: (Contributed by Tyrailius) If you find your posts disappearing it is not likely that there is a glitch in the system. Rather, one or more of your posts may have been in violation of the Rules and Guidelines, and as such were subsequently removed by an Admin. You'll have to make more posts which are within the terms of these rules before you can view the downloads again.

Links 'Temporarily Unavailable': (Contributed by Ryu Hardt) Sometimes MegaUpload becomes jam-packed with traffic so that it makes the site load slower then normal which makes files become 'Temporarily Unavailable'. So if you check back in a few mintues after you get that message they should be working. Though it all depends on how busy Megauploads servers are.

Episodes: Generation Z does not host any season of Power Rangers that was not created solely by Saban. I'm not Ryu, so I can't speak for him, but I can pretty much guarantee that it isn't going to happen. Generation Z is about reliving fond memories of our childhoods, and these newer seasons of Power Rangers just aren't a part of that for most of us.

***************
Congratulations! You have just successfully downloaded a high quality episode of Power Rangers. A lot of work went into making these high quality episodes available to so many people for free, so enjoy them.

All that anyone wants in return is your continued contribution to the amazing community that is Generation Z. Your posts are what make all of this possible, and we want to know that you enjoy what has been provided to you, and also that you appreciate it.

The best way you can show your appreciation to Ryu Hardt and Tyrailius is to keep on posting. You don't have to write essays every time you post, but show how much you value what Ryu and Ty have given by making an effort to write high quality posts. Even if you don't have great spelling or grammar, you can do just as much with a meaningful idea or thought. Choose an avatar, find a sig, read the fiction, comment on the art, and throw yourself into discussions - be a part of this community. You have a chance to make this the best forum on the internet, so please, I implore you, give a little back to the Admins that have given us all so much.

They sure as hell deserve it.

 Vulgarity & Scantily Clad Women
Posted by Ryu Hardt - 10-28-09 01:39 - 6 comments
I'm here to issue a verbal statement to all.

Please see Section C of the sign-up rules below.

Section C: No Explicit Material/Content
As this board has members below the age of 18, it is illegal to post any form of Hentai, Pornography, or anything adult-rated in nature. Avoid heavy use of vulgar language and overly sexual content. You can maturely discuss some things but nothing in physical detail.

It appears, as of late, that we've seen Members taking advantage of us being a bit more lenient, probably too lenient, on the use of vulgar language. We've seen it popping up in places it doesn't need to be. Therefore I want to send you guys a friendly reminder that when you decide to cuss to please use common sense. Think to yourself, "Is there a better way I could say this or is there a way I can express myself differently?" because using strong language is the lazy way out.

Also please be more careful on pictures and comments that are being posted in some of the newly created threads. They've been coming out of the woodwork like no other this past week and we strongly encourage that no more topics where you are to post pictures of women be created for awhile. The Staff is debating on which pictures are forum appropriate in the three threads that are currently around. Therefore if you think some of the pictures you posted may not be forum appropriate, and could be considered for removal, to please replace them with a more mannered one.

We understand that a little fun here and there is great for the forum health, but please don't let it get out of hand. I hate being the bearer of bad news.

 GZ: After Dark.
Posted by Tyrailius - 08-6-09 21:19 - 12 comments
Well, it's time for me to release a new skin. This skin is like the In Space skin, but doesn't have Power Ranger helmets as buttons (much like the Generation Z skin). I thought since we had a light skin for members that didn't like the Power Ranger helmet idea, we should have a dark skin as well.

I have been working on this skin over the past few months. It gave me more troubles to begin with than I had expected, but I believe I have finally perfected it. Plus, with the doctor not wanting me to run or do any sports, it gave me some time to sit down and finish this skin. This is my last skin for awhile, or atleast until IPBFree makes an upgrade.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you...

 MMPR Back on TV?
Posted by PRF4L - 07-17-09 18:43 - 20 comments
So, Otakon is going on this weekend in Baltimore. Tony Oliver (If you don't know who he is, look him up) is there, and he passed on a bit of news.

QUOTE (Tony Oliver)
I hear through the grapevine that Disney plans to air the first 3 seasons of MMPR unedited and cleaned up.

Now this could mean that if Disney is going to go through all the trouble to make the video quality better, then why not make some American DVDs to make some money off of it?

A couple other things that could mean this is true, is that Bandai has said they will be making a PR toyline next year and the confirmed SL figure next year is the MMPR pink ranger.

Thoughts?

 Imageshack - Hacked
Posted by Ryu Hardt - 07-10-09 22:15 - 5 comments
It has been brought to my attention that Imageshack has recently, within the last hour (9PM CT) or so, been hacked. You may have noticed on a few skins (Aquitar, Zeo, and In Space) our banners changed to this, but thanks to PRF4L's speedy eye he alerted me to this right as it was happening and we got it under control.

We do not want to alarm you, but thought this needed to be brought to your attention. This way if your images are appearing as the link above you may need to reupload them, or you can wait for Imageshack to sort out the problem on their end.

 BETA Forums
Posted by Tyrailius - 06-9-09 14:20 - 40 comments
It is that time. The BETA forums have now gone live!

Ryu Hardt and I have been working the last day or so to put the final touches on them. We took suggestions from the BETA Forums Testing Ideas? thread in the Feedback Center. Below are the BETA’s that now exist. Please note there was no rhyme or reason as to where the sub-forums were placed.

Pastime Texting
Text-based games that even the simplest simpleton can comprehend.
Posts made here will not add to your post count.

Super Sentai
Come in here to discuss any Super Sentai, past, present, and future.

Science/Sci-Fi/Paranormal
Have a thing for the unexplained? Have a story to share? If so, this is your headquarters!

Literature
Discuss any form of literature from your good ole' books, to manga, to comic books.

These will be tested throughout the summer meaning sometime in August we will decide which, if any (hopefully all), will become part of this forum permanently.

Have fun!
